Welcome!

I have been conquered by books. They have taken over my thoughts and everyday life. Hopefully, I'm not the only one this has happened to.

Delirium

I realize that it has been a while since I posted a review. But it has been a while since I read such a captivating book, as well.

I was lucky enough to win an advanced copy of Lauren Oliver's Delirium through the Goodreads First Reads giveaways. When I read the description, I was fascinated.

Delirium is the story of almost-18-year-old Lina, who is living in a future version of Portland, Maine. In Lina's society, love has been discovered as a "disease". At the age of 18, everyone is "cured" of the "disease". Lina is thrilled that it is almost her 18th birthday; she will finally be cured of the disease that has scarred her family name. She will be matched with someone who she will spend the rest of her life with, and she will be happy. She counts down the days until her procedure... Until...

Well, as wonderful as this story is, from the minute I understood that love was illegal, I knew that Lina would fall in love. That much was predictable (it was actually in the synopsis of the book). But the rest of the book took me on a wild ride of emotions. My heart ached with Lina's, which is a sign (for me) that a book is just great. This book also contains one of my favorite male characters. Ever. And when the book ended, knowing that the follow-up will not come for another year... Well, let's just say I can't wait.

I recommend this book especially for fans of dystopian literature with a taste for a good love story. And I give it five out of five stars, no doubt.
